Governor Braun Grows Manufacturing Jobs with Med-Mizer’s Expansion in Batesville

BATESVILLE, Ind. – Indiana Governor Mike Braun today announced Med-Mizer, an Indiana-founded medical device company and defense contractor, will expand its operations in Batesville, creating up to 73 new high-wage jobs in the coming years.

“Today is a great day for Med-Mizer and for the state as we celebrate the growth of an Indiana-based, Veteran-founded small business that is advancing medical solutions and supporting the country’s defense industry,” said Gov. Braun. “Med-Mizer’s commitment to grow and create new, high-wage jobs here in Indiana is made possible by our pro-growth business climate and our skilled workforce.”

Med-Mizer will invest $9 million to increase production at its existing 40,000-square-foot facility at 80 Commerce Dr. in Batesville, purchasing new machinery and equipment and retrofitting the space to accommodate growth and a second shift. The expansion will enable the company to grow its production of innovative hospital beds and safe patient handling solutions, which serve patients and caregivers across hospitals, hospice, long-term care, rehabilitation facilities and home care settings.

The expansion will also support Med-Mizer’s fulfillment of a recently awarded five-year, sole-source contract with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) through its partner, DiSorb Systems, to provide at-home hospital beds, support surfaces and related accessories to Veterans nationwide. Med-Mizer’s growth bolsters Indiana’s growing defense ecosystem that has increased defense contracts by 24% since 2020.

“We’re incredibly proud that Med-Mizer’s continued growth is happening right here in Batesville, where our company was founded more than 20 years ago,” said Brian Roth, CEO of Med-Mizer. “This investment marks a transformational chapter in our company’s history, significantly expanding our American manufacturing capabilities, creating meaningful career opportunities for Hoosiers, and strengthening our ability to serve Veterans and healthcare providers across the country. As a Veteran-founded company, being entrusted to provide at-home hospital beds and support surfaces nationwide to Veterans is especially meaningful to us. We’re excited about what this growth means for our employees, our community, and the Veterans and caregivers we have the privilege to serve.”

Med-Mizer’s expansion is expected to more than double its current workforce. The company has already started hiring for positions in manufacturing, engineering, technical support, quality, shipping and customer service, with additional opportunities anticipated as production continues to increase. New positions are expected to offer average wages 134% of the Ripley County average.

“Under the Governor’s leadership, we’re focused on creating more opportunities for Hoosiers and this expansion from Med-Mizer will do just that,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich. “This is a company that could grow anywhere, but they are choosing to invest in Indiana, invest in our talent and invest in the Batesville community. Med-Mizer’s growth will positively impact Hoosiers and our economy for years to come.”

Med-Mizer has been operating in Batesville since its founding in 2003. The company has been a driving force in mobility innovation for the healthcare community for more than 20 years, with a focus on helping patients and caregivers thrive. Med-Mizer's innovative hospital beds and safe patient handling solutions are used in thousands of homes, hospitals and care facilities nationwide, helping improve patient comfort, safety, mobility and independence while supporting the caregivers who serve them.
